Hair dyes contain ammonia, hydrogen peroxide which bleaches the melanin and causes it to become brittle and extra dry. Use of permanent hair dye (one that lasts more than 8 weeks) can lead to the above effects and even hair loss. There is a chemical called paraphenyenediamine(PPD) or paratoluenediamine (PDT) in most hair dyes that can cause allergic reactions. Whereas there is strict regulation in some countries about the quantity of these chemicals that should be put in commercial hair dyes, there are some countries that have no regulations. Be careful then when you buy commercial dyes. There are other natural alternatives that can be used such as henna if you want to colour your hair.
