When we eat protein the body breaks it down to amino acids which are then broken down and converted to ammonia through a process known as transdeamination. This involves three steps: Ammonia is toxic to the body as it will raise the PH in the cells therefore the ammonia is quickly converted to a non toxic compound called urea in 5 steps all involving various enzymes. Urea is what is excreted from he body in urine.
