      The northern lights (aurora) are formed when charged particles from the sun(solar wind) ionizes particles in the upper atmosphere. This ionization releases the light that we call aurora borealis.The earths magnetic field pulls the charged particles towards the poles this is why we do not see the aurora in Kenya.
